I am thrilled to share more about the second episode of "Cooking Back to Our Roots," which was an incredible journey of discovery and empowerment.
Our esteemed guest speakers for this episode were Edson Hato and Sacha Martina, who brought enlightening perspectives to our conversation.
The spotlight for this episode was on the (former) Dutch Antilles, a region rich in history and culture, where we applied the concept of ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ธ๐ผ๐ณ๐ฎ throughout the episode.
Sankofa, a term from the Akan tribe in Ghana, symbolizes the idea of going back to retrieve what has been lost in order to move forward. This principle guided our exploration into the (culinary) traditions of the Dutch Antilles and their deep-seated roots in the past.

"๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐๐ผ ๐ข๐๐ฟ ๐ฅ๐ผ๐ผ๐๐" is not just a cooking showโit's a platform that cultivates a deeper appreciation for our shared heritage. It's about tracing the paths of our ancestors through the medium of food and understanding how our traditions have been shaped by history, particularly the significant influence of Dutch slavery on the African Diaspora in the Netherlands.
The production of this episode was made possible due to the collective effort of several organizations and individuals. My heartfelt thanks go to the City of Amsterdam, Amplify DEI, and The Project Wizard for their unwavering support.
Special mentions also go to MUA Glamdelien for the stunning makeup, Benedicta Badu for capturing the essence of our journey through her photography, and Raquel Hodge (Interior Design) Momentrepreneurs_nl, Bobo Couture, Black Ladies Talk udu media and Het Koorenhuis for their invaluable contributions.
